Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje was born at Bugaje, Katsina State. He had his early education in Katsina before proceeding to the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained Bachelor’s Degree B.Eng. Hons in 1980 and MSc in 1988. He received commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Award in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 1993 where he studied Energy Engineering at the University of Newcastle Upon-Tyne, for his PhD. Bugaje served the compulsory NYSC at the NNPC Refinery in Warri, and started his working career as a Trainee Process Engineer at Nigerian Paper Mill, Jebba, in 1981.
He later moved to academia in 1983 doing research and lecturing spanning over three decades at the Sokoto Energy Research Centre, Kaduna Polytechnic, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Maiduguri, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and the University of Johannesburg. He also served as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (2000-2004) and was the Director General, National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria (2011 to 2016) before his appointment as Rector, Kaduna Polytechnic in September 2017. Prof. Bugaje is a registered Engineer with COREN and Fellow of the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (SESN) and the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE).
